Finding the Best Car Insurance Company for You

Rates and discounts were part of every insurance company's score, but we know cost is the number one factor for many auto insurance shoppers. Because pricing depends on personal factors including your age, location, vehicle history, credit, and gender (in most cases), it's important to consider auto insurance quotes.

If price is the most important factor in your search, car insurance price comparison can help you find the cheapest price. However, your shopping experience will also shed light on the company's customer service standards.

To find the best car insurance companies:

Visit your state insurance commissioner's website to find complaints and other information about companies in your area.

Ask your agent or customer service representative to make sure you get the coverage you need.

Think of smaller auto insurance companies, as they offer far lower rates than big competitors in many locations.

If you have infractions or violations, be sure to look for insurance three and five years after the accident, as the additional fees can drop significantly.

And in case you want to take a look at the rates, go to your state below and compare average rates from the three cheapest car insurance companies in several categories where you live.

A larger company may not necessarily mean a better customer experience. Smaller local insurers such as NJM and Erie are making the cuts, while some of the largest in the US (including Nationwide) are not on our list.
