About work insurance

It is often said that bad things can happen to you even without your cooperation. This can also be said about jobs and professions. A shortage of available work, mass layoffs and cutbacks, reorganization and merger, anything can happen at today's fast pace. When it comes down to it, the experience can be devastating for many, made worse when savings are not enough, debts are high, and payments are late.

Being prepared is always the best way to mitigate the effects of income loss. Having a job in insurance keeps you enjoying the benefits of income. Employment insurance can help you receive maternity and sickness care services, provide support for a sick family member, care for an infant, even hunting benefits and many more.

To apply for employment insurance, all you have to do is apply online. Employment insurance is paid even when the applicant receives money when he or she is unemployed.

When applying for employment insurance, you will be asked for an 'employment record' which you will have to obtain from your last employer or proof of employment such as pay slips, salary receipts and certificate.

Other documents you will need when applying for an insurance job include:

Social insurance number. If your SIN starts with 9, this means that you are an immigrant and you will also need to provide your immigration status and work permit. You will have to provide an employment history covering the past 52 weeks. When claiming medical and sickness benefits, a medical certificate must be provided. When applying in person, prepare your driver's license, passport or birth certificate. Also provide complete bank information.

Checks or canceled checks will be required from your existing personal account, as payments will be made directly to this account. When applying for parental benefits, the other parent's Social Security number will be required.

If you are applying for a compassionate care benefit, a medical certificate is required. You will also have to provide your version of the facts surrounding the cause of your unemployment. Along with this is a statement of your total salary before deductions, including commissions and other income benefits, and the total amount you will receive including severance pay, vacation pay, pension etc.

Don't delay when applying for employment insurance, delaying an application for more than four weeks could result in penalties or loss of benefits.

If you receive financial assistance from Social Services while waiting for your employment insurance claims, you will have to pay the amount from your employment insurance benefits.

If you are upset and cannot apply for your employment insurance, an appointment representative can be assigned to do the application for you,

After you have applied for your employment insurance, you will receive in your mail a statement of benefits including the access code and the date of your first report. Having an access token does not mean that your claim has already been resolved. Besides this there will be instructions on how to complete your report.

If you have submitted your report with all the required information, you will start receiving employment insurance benefits 28 days after you submit.
